Did we mention the award-winning golf? Or the two tennis facilities? How about the abundance of outdoor activity, including kayaking, shelling, fishing and boating?
Golf
There are a total of seven private and public golf courses in Kiawah.
- The Kiawah Island Golf Resort — voted best golf resort in the country by the readers of Golf World magazine — is home to five public courses, including The Ocean Course, Turtle Point, Osprey Point, Oak Point and Cougar Point.
- The Ocean Course will host the 2012 PGA Championship and has hosted the 2007 Senior PGA Championships and the Ryder Cup, World Cup and UBS Warburg Cup.
- There are also two private courses at The River Course and Cassique.
- Numerous other courses are on Johns Island and the greater Charleston area.
Tennis
Take a swing at the island’s two tennis facilities.
- The Roy Barth Tennis Center and West Beach Tennis Center both offer pro shops, rentals, matchmaking services and private instruction. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time. West Beach is a very short walk away.
Outdoor adventures
On an island teeming with wildlife, you have to get out to see nature in action.
- Check out the Heron Park Nature Center, a center dedicated to the island’s ecosystem and natural inhabitants. Find a schedule of activities or ask the on-staff naturalists questions.
- Enjoy more than 30 miles of hiking/biking trails around the island.
- Head to the water for swimming, fishing, kayaking, water skiing and boating.
- Children are covered with various island activities, including a playground, soccer fields and basketball courts.
- Nearby Seabrook Island offers horseback riding.
